The practice

I make films and photographs that feel found, even when every detail is deliberate.

I’m Syd Richardson, a New York–based Director and Cinematographer working across commercial, music, documentary, branded, event, and independent productions. I can lead the idea, build the image, or carry both from the first conversation through the final frame.

The work lives in the friction between control and accident: hard light, lived-in spaces, a face changing mid-take, the strange thing at the edge of the frame. I care about atmosphere, performance, material, and making images that still have a pulse after the campaign ends.

01

Direction

The idea and the people inside it come first.

02

Cinematography

Light and camera should carry meaning, not decoration.

03

Still image

A single frame can hold the evidence differently.

04

Open practice

Writing, essays, fragments, and experiments stay in motion.
